    Hi Beth, Greg, and Maribeth,
I'm looking for a good engineering lesson to model with my class of pre-service elementary science teachers to introduce them to teaching engineering to elementary students (the majority of whom have never had any experience with). I therefore want to find a lesson that has been vetted by the LE community as a strong engineering lesson in line with the principles outlined by the vision for engineering education put forth by the NAE (as well as the ...

    Dr. Zarske,
I'm a PhD student in the STEM Education at UT-Austin, and I'm very interested in the project-based service-learning for engineering in K-12 (indeed, I'm hoping to explore this topic for my dissertation). I'm really excited to see that this is among your research expertise! In my search for past research on this, it's always seemed that service-learning in K-12 engineering (where precollege students are the server-learners) seems to be a relatively unexplored area, which is ...

As I mentioned in another question I just posted a few minutes ago, this semester I am teaching an Elementary Science Methods course for about 16 pre-service teachers. As part of my curriculum, I plan on dedicating a few class meetings to the topic of teaching engineering in elementary. I would like to have my students attempt developing an engineering lesson for a grade-level of their choice (they all also concurrently have a field requirement). I'm not totally sure what my requirements ...

This semester, I have the privilege of being the instructor on record for an Elementary Science Methods course for pre-service K-5 teachers. As part of my curriculum for the course, I would like to introduce teaching engineering in the elementary setting. In addition to discussing the EDP, I would really like for my students (future elementary teachers) to experience a high-quality engineering design lesson/activity. Here are my constraints: my course meets for 3 hours once a week. As ...
