Rick Sandlin is retired from the Texas Education System after serving 35 years. Rick’s experience includes 12 years as an elementary Math and Science teacher in grades 4 – 6 at three different Independent School Districts in Texarkana, Texas. Rick served one year as an Assistant Elementary Principal and then served 20 years as an Elementary Principal at 4 different elementary campuses in the Texarkana Independent School District (TISD). Rick took the helm of Martha and Josh Morriss Mathematics and Engineering Elementary School in 2006, serving as project manager for the construction of the state-of-the-art elementary campus that has instructional opportunities specifically in the areas of math, science, engineering and technology with direct ties to the Texas A&M University - Texarkana College of Arts & Sciences and Education and College of Engineering. Rick became the founding principal of Morriss Elementary in August of 2007 and served as principal for the next 7 years. During Rick’s tenure Morriss Elementary was recognized as one of the top STEM elementary schools in Texas and the United States. Morriss received every Distinction Designation (6) it was eligible to receive on the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness Test (STAAR) with 100% students passing in grades 3 – 5. Morriss was also recognized as one of the top 100 schools (elementary, middle and high school) in the United States by Neighborhood Scout ranking 23rd. Rick’s final position with TISD was the Director of Elementary Campus Operations. Rick has also served as an Adjunct Accounting Instructor at Texarkana College. Rick received a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in 1977 and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Elementary Education in 1973 from Texas A&M University at Texarkana. Rick has also been a member of the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) for the past 20 years.
