This rubric provides guidance to teachers for distinguishing the relative proficiency of student engineering design practices.

Teachers can use the Informed Design Rubric to assess students’ abilities to do design practices in an “informed” way. This is based on research by David Crismond of City College of New York and Robin Adams of Purdue University. A much deeper discussion of informed design can be found in "The Informed Design Teaching and Learning Matrix" in the Journal of Engineering Education 101(4): 738-797.

    Fantastic Rubric
This is a great resource to help students understand the difference between what a beginner would do vs. what an informed engineer would do.
