In the Drag Races activity learners run relay races wearing poster board shields to demonstrate drag. After the initial race, learners modify their shields to reduce drag.

Drag Races: How does shape reduce drag?

Objective: Understand how shape impacts drag.

Scenario and Task: You are a mechanical engineer. You will design and test a faring to find the shapes that best reduce drag.

AeroEducate K-2 Activities are developed for younger learners to investigate aerodynamics topics such as drag, lift, or Bernoulli’s Principle. Designed in a 5-E lesson format, each activity begins with an essential question, incorporates a career component through a real-world scenario, and introduces age-appropriate vocabulary. Background information for the facilitator is included. Posters that illustrate key concepts associated with the lesson can be printed or viewed electronically. Templates are included as needed.
