This NSTA web seminar on January 15, 2013 discussed the role of technology and engineering in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
First in a series of three programs, this program provided insight into NGSS by looking at the practices described in A Framework for K–12 Science Education through the lens of engineering. The presenter was Mariel Milano, P-SELL and STEM Coordinator for Orange County Public Schools, who discussed the definition of engineering and its role in NGSS. She described the differences between scientific and engineering practices then used a performance expectation from the second draft of NGSS to talk about what engineering looks like in the classroom.
