Students learn about the importance of having clean water and will apply the engineering design process to design, build, and construct a water filter.

Designed by Techbridge for middle school youth in informal settings, this activity will allow students to learn and explain human impacts on aquatic environments as well as the benefits of water filtration. Students work in teams, learn about environmental engineering, and apply the engineering design process to design, build, and construct a water filter that will remove all the contaminants from a bucket of dirty water.

The attached file includes step-by-step instruction for planning and leading the activity along with a useful "fact sheet" to share with participants.  Includes connections to Next Generation Science Standards.
