Students create their own anemometers—instruments for measuring wind speed. They see how an anemometer measures wind speed by taking measurements at various school locations. They also learn about different types of anemometers, real-world applications, and how wind speed information helps engineers decide where to place wind turbines.

    Anemometer
This was a great activity to let students learn about measuring wind. We were learning about renewable energy sources and build these to take out and test to determine the best place for a wind turbine near our school.

Once the students collected data in different places we collected class data in order to recommend a good place. We only went out once, so next time I would plan to have multiple days where we tested and also record the conditions (sunny, etc).

I did find the clay as the base wasn't great. It did tend to dry out and the students struggled to keep the pencils in it. If you want Read More
