Tanner Huffman , International Technology and Engineering Educators Association submitted an answer on "Boeing finished ~10 curr. units. What do you think? Content? Lesson format? Progression? Interesting for students?" Posted Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 12:08 PM Hi Steve, I've had a chance to review the materials at some length and there is some really wonderful resources and activities in the units. Hi Steve, I've had a chance to review the materials at some length and there is some really wonderful resources and activities in the units. They are a great start and could provide an already master teacher with another "Tool in the toolbox" for STEM instruction. In terms of critiques, the units and lessons lack a sound instructional model for lesson structure and intended delivery. When a lesson starts off with "Silent Reading Time", several red flags immediately start to pop up. Additionally, I think the reading level and resources need to be adjusted by the teacher. Some of the readings are suggested for 6th graders but are clearly for older audiences (several from academic publications). Those nit-picking critiques aside, the units really are a great resource. The videos are a nice add to give you an idea of where the lessons/units came from. Good Stuff! Thanks for sharing! Show More
Tanner Huffman , International Technology and Engineering Educators Association submitted an answer on "What's the best format for a K-12 engineering lesson plan/unit?" Posted Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 4:51 PM Hi Sneha, Having a strong instructional model can help immensely with lesson development and format. The basic premise of the 6E Learning byDeSIGN™ Model was to develop a student-centered model that would blend design (context and concepts) and inquiry. Building on the successes of the BSCS 5E, this new model adds an “e” called eNGINEER. It is in this phase or cycle where students truly design and... Building on the successes of the BSCS 5E, this new model adds an “e” called eNGINEER. It is in this phase or cycle where students truly design and model as engineers would.
