Engineering focused integrative-STEM (i-STEM) education at The College of New Jersey including K-5(8) i-STEM Education Pre-service program, Secondary i-STEM Technology/ Engineering Pre-service program, and Graduate i-STEM Program

K-5(8) i-STEM Education:  Started in 1998, this program is likely the oldest i-STEM teacher preparation program in the country.  There are five education major options:  (i) Elementary Ed., (ii) Early Childhood Ed., (iii) Special Ed., (iv) Deaf & Hard of Hearing Ed. and (v) Urban Ed.  Program requires science, mathematics (calculus), technology and engineering, a Specialization (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Tech./ Engineering) and an three types of STEM methods (Math, Science and I-STEM).  Most students also complete middle school endorsement in mathematics and science.  Most Technology & Engineering specialization students also complete a secondary education certification.

Secondary Tech./ Engineering:  This program prepares students to be high quality Tech./ Engineering teachers in secondary classrooms.  This program requires substantial levels of math, science and engineering compared to most programs (calculus, calculus-based physics).  Course content includes, Structures and Mechanisms, Mechanical Systems, Biotechnology Systems, Engineering Math, CAD Design, Architecture, Multimedia Design, Creative Design, Facilities Design, Materials Processing and i-STEM Methods.

Graduate i-STEM Programs:  Department supports two Masters Programs:  (i) an M.Ed. in i-STEM designed for in-service teachers and (ii) an M.A.T. program in Technology /Pre-engineering Education for career changers (~1 year cohort model), which includes two i-STEM methods courses.
