Engineering focused Integrative-STEM Education at The College of New Jersey with pre-service programs for K-5(8) and secondary education and graduate education programs

The Department of Technological Studies, located within the School of engineering, offers both graduate and undergraduate engineering education focused integrative-STEM (i-STEM) teacher preparation programs. 

K-5(8) Integrative-STEM:  Started in 1998, this K-5(8) pre-service education program is likely the first i-STEM education program in the country.  Program is offered with five education major options: (i) Elementary Education, (ii) Early Childhood, (iii) Special Ed., (iv) Deaf & Hard of Hearing and (v) Urban Ed.  Program requires Science, Math and Technology/Engineering content, i-STEM methods and a Specialization (Tech./Eng, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).  Most i-STEM majors    complete Middle School endorsements in math and science.  Students choosing the Tech./ Eng. Specialization  often complete a secondary endorsement in Technology Education.  This program is often one of the largest education majors on campus.

Secondary Technology Education:  This secondary pre-service program prepares students to become highly qualified Technology & Engineering educators.  Compared to most programs in the country this program requires substantial levels of mathematics (calculus), Science (calculus-based physics) and engineering content useful for the middle school and high school classroom.  Course topics include: Structures and Mechanisms, Mechanical Systems, CAD Design, Biotechnology, Engineering Math, Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Controls & Robotics, Architecture, Materials lab, Creative Design, Facilities Design and i-STEM methods.
